Herpes Treatment

Early Stages Herpes
2,000 years ago, Herodotus made the first note on a disease manifested by fever and blisters around the mouth, which he called a "herpes fibrils". Later, it was described a similar disease, localized genital called "herpes genitals."

The cause of these diseases was specified only in 1960 when it was shown that they are determined by two related viruses: herpes simplex to lip lesions and for the genital herpes simplex virus.

Herpes Treatment

The term "herpes" is known popularly, is attributed mostly lip lesions. In general, patients believe that ringworm is a mild illness without complications, they 'treat' themselves at home with various "cures empirically" ineffective, such as toothpaste, vinegar, cigarette ash, cabbage leaves, spoon wooden hot, Ness etc.

Few know that herpes is a viral infection, highly contagious, relapsing, which may have serious complications in newborns and immunosuppressed patients (immunocompromised). Herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2 (HSV 1 and HSV 2) have a common character called "latency." This means that after first contact with the body of the virus, called "primoinfection", the virus is completely eliminated from the body. It will last a lifetime, dormant ("sleep"), inside of nerve cells. During latency the virus produces no symptoms but, in the presence of predisposing factors, it reactivates ("wakes up") and will produce the appellants (relapse) herpes.

Spread of infection in the world

HSV 1 infection is widespread in the world, its incidence being in a continuous growth. It is estimated that infection spread HSV 1 infection in adults is over 80% in developing countries (Africa, Asia and South America) and below 60% in developed countries. This infection affects mainly poor social classes, where bending the rules of hygiene, promiscuity, lack of health education promotes spread of infection.

Routes of transmission of infection

HSV 1 is transmitted from person to person by kissing, as a result of contact with saliva and the lesions on the lips.
Transmission of infection via contaminated items (toothbrushes, towels, handkerchiefs, glasses, cutlery etc).  Is possible, but rare. It is possible for patients to self infect other areas (genitals, eyes, fingers) via contaminated fingers.

Symptoms at first contact with the virus

At first contact with HSV 1, called primo infection in 90% of cases there is no symptom, total passing unnoticed infection. The remaining 10% of cases symptoms: fever (38-39 degrees C), mucosal burning mouth pain, swallowing, groups of vesicles (blisters) filled with fluid located in the lips, which can extend around mouth and the lining of the mouth, tongue, gums and throat.
Vesicles on the skin break and transform in some deposits (shells), which then fall without leaving scars. Evolution is favorable, with healing in 1-2 weeks.
Rarely, especially in children under 1 year, the virus disseminates to the brain, causing herpes encephalitis, which in the absence of treatment with acyclovir is lethal in 80% of cases.

In time, they tried numerous medications for herpes, which proved be ineffective or toxic to the body (Vidarobina, Idoxuridina). In 1980, when it was discovered acyclovir, has been a revolution in the millennial history of herpes, which is why the developers have received the Nobel Prize in 1988.

Acyclovir stops the replication of the virus, has no toxic effects on the body and has no contraindications. Lip herpes is sufficient for local treatment with ointments containing Acyclovir.
Numerous comparative clinical studies have shown that Acyclovir is much more effective than other anti-herpes ointments because they act on local symptoms and speeds healing of lesions than the lips. Ointment should be applied as soon after the appearance of first symptoms (burning, tingling, itching), as this can prevent herpes to show the outside skin.

For severe forms of herpes of the lips and for patients with more than six recurrences per year, Ask your doctor which will indicate appropriate treatment.
To date no effective vaccine against viruses discovered a herpes simplex 1 and 2.
In conclusion, we can say that herpes is an infection "parse" the capacity Cares control the body's immune defense and persist in the body throughout life and can always reignited.

Herpes Tips

Do not cover with patches, lesions must remain uncovered to be dry.
The injury is not applicable over alcohol, iodine, rivanol, pomezia with antibiotics and no "cures empirically."

Gargle with chamomile tea 5-6 times a day when there are sores in the mouth.
Consult your doctor if you are affected by children, pregnant women or imunodepressed.
Ophthalmologist when signs of eye disease. Do not apply ointments of cortisone.

Wash hands frequently and avoid self-contamination (by touch) of the eyes or genitals. Toiletries, towels, handkerchiefs, glasses, cutlery should be used only by the patient. Avoid physical contact with others.
