Can genital herpes reoccur?

After invading the skin or mucous surfaces, the pathogen that causes genital herpes travels to the sensory nerves at the end of the spinal nerve. When this occurs, the pathogen travels along the nerves to the skin, where it multiplies on the surface at or close to the location of the first herpes sores, causing new wounds to explode. The indications of recurring episodes are generally milder than those of the first episode and often last roughly a week. Avoid sexual contact from the time symptoms are first recognized till the sores are absolutely healed, that is, till scabs have fallen off and new skin has formed over the location of the puncture. Other new drugs famciclovir and valacyclovir now on the market work in the same way.
